Step 9: Make Procrastination Difficult
Change your environment in at least one way that makes your unwanted behaviors harder to do. Following are some examples:
If snoozing is causing you to miss your morning exercise, put the alarm clock in the next room.
If social media is interrupting your meditation practice, turn off the notifications on your phone.
If TV is stopping you from reading your book, put the remote control in another room (or put the TV in the garage).
Put the TV in the garage? Yup, I said it. How much you turn up the activation energy of your undesired behaviors is, of course, up to you. But if your new habit is truly important to you, don’t be afraid to take some drastic actions regarding your environment to support it.
